Photographic Editorial and Administrative Assistant Position

 

Freelance photographer, writer, and speaker Stuart Palley is looking for an editorial assistant to help manage logistics, research, inquiries, and other tasks. You can see his work at www.stuartpalley.com, www.terraflamma.org and on Instagram @stuartpalley

The editorial assistant will be responsible for 60% administrative work and 40% editorial work, including:

  • Assisting with location research, including field photo projects, including identifying ideal locations for news assignments, features, and caption details

  • Researching and editing grant applications

  • Scheduling and managing Stuart’s calendar 

  • Managing Stuart’s social media accounts, as needed during fire season 

  • Assisting with administration and logistics around payments and contracts

  • Responding to email inquiries as needed when Stuart is in the field

 

The ideal candidate should have a year of experience in journalism, photography, or another writing/creative field (recent graduates with student journalism experience are welcome to apply), with a particular interest in the environment, climate change, drought, and other issues focused on the Western United States. There will be occasional related commercial projects as well. You should be organized, efficient, a self-starter, communicate professionally, and open to learning the ins and outs of running a successful photography and creative business.

 

The position will ideally start ASAP in July 2021. Pay is $20/ hour, with a minimum of 15 hours of work guaranteed each month, and the work is 100% remote. Local candidates will have the option of possible fieldwork with Stuart on occasion. The manager will also offer mentorship, portfolio reviews, business advice, professional connections, and more, depending on your career goals.
